Angelica’s Area Spotlight: 2017 Canada Day in the Kitchener-Waterloo Region
Not only is it Canada Day this coming Saturday, July 1st, 2017, but it’s also a rather special one, as it will be the 150th time the day has been celebrated. Obviously, this milestone calls for more festivals, fun, food, and fireworks than ever before and the Kitchener – Waterloo Region does not intend to disappoint. Here’s a look at just some of the events coming up this holiday weekend.
Where to See the Fireworks
It really wouldn’t be a Canada Day weekend without lots of cracks, bangs, and pops. The good news is that there are a number of great firework displays to choose from being staged across the region. On Canada Day itself, Saturday, you have more than a few fireworks spectaculars to choose from:
Downtown Kitchener Fireworks. Display starts at 10.15pm at 200 King Street West, Kitchener
Fireworks at Bingeman’s Camping Resort. The display starts at 10 pm, celebrations begin at dusk at 425 Bingeman’s Centre Drive, Kitchener.
Fireworks at the University of Waterloo. Celebrations begin at dusk, fireworks go off around 10 pm. Head to Columbia Lake Fields to join in the fun.
Fireworks at Riverside Park. Celebrations begin at dusk, firework display scheduled for 9.50pm at 49 King Street West, Cambridge.

Canada Day in DTK
There is a lot going on in Downtown Kitchener before the fireworks begin on July 1st. Beginning at 5 pm at City Hall you can enjoy food, fun and a free concert headlined by James Barker Band. Admission is free for all.
Canada Day Weekend at Joseph Schneider House
Joseph Schneider House is celebrating a birthday right along with the nation, but it is actually turning 201! Celebrate this legacy by heading out to 466 Queen Street South, Kitchener and celebrating with cakes, crafts, and a fascinating history lesson. Admission is waived for all on Saturday, July 1st too.
Canada Day at Kitchener Market
Beginning at 7 am (!) at 300 King Street East, Kitchener the market will play host to all kinds of great holiday activities for the whole family including crafts, face painting, food and beverage sampling, live music and more.
Sunday Funday at Waterloo Region Museum
If you still have any energy left on Sunday, July 2nd then the Waterloo Region Museum will be a great place to be. They’ll be live music, crafts, hands-on historical activities, games and more.
