Angelica’s Area Spotlight – Lexington, Waterloo

Angelica’s Area Spotlight – Our weekly look at the Waterloo Region and the goings on here.

The Waterloo Region is made up not only of several different town and cities but also of a myriad of different neighbourhoods, each with its own unique amenities and characteristics. You’ll find the Lexington neighbourhood on the east side of the City of Waterloo. Not familiar with it? Let’s take a closer look.

Lexington, Waterloo Housing Stock

The homes that dot the tree-lined streets in Lexington range from older beauties (30+ years) to newer models. The lots tend to be generously sized and the whole area has a nice, spacious feel to it.

Lexington, Waterloo Schools

For families looking to buy a home almost anywhere, the school that serve their potential new locale are extremely important. At the elementary level, Lexington is served by Lexington Public School for kindergarteners through sixth grade, the Margaret Avenue School for 6-8th graders and the Bluevale Collegiate Institute for secondary high school education. There are also two private Catholic schools that serve the area; St. Matthew’s Elementary School and St. David’s Catholic Secondary School.

Lexington, Waterloo Recreational Opportunities

The RIM Park, which is just a hop, skip and a jump away for Lexington residents, is a jewel in the Waterloo Region’s recreational crown, boasting four indoor skating rinks, indoor recreational facilities, the renowned Grey Silo Golf Course, the innovative Green Lab environmental education center, the wonderful Benchwarmer Restaurant and much more.

But the recreational opportunities are not just limited to RIM. As Lexington lies in close proximity to the Grand River there are plenty of walking, cycling and running trails to keep the outdoor enthusiast busy and playgrounds to keep the kids amused.

Lexington, Waterloo Shopping and Entertainment

For those who like to shop until they drop the popular Conestoga Mall is within easy reach, boasting dozens of great shops and casual restaurants. There are also a number of wonderful fine dining establishments covering all kinds of cuisine.

In terms of entertainment, the heart of downtown Waterloo is not too far away for Lexington residents – even though the area itself feels rather nicely shielded from the general hustle and bustle of city life – and great expressway access means that even a trip to the big city bright lights of Toronto is just a matter of a little over an hour’s drive.

Lexington, Waterloo is just one of the areas that make our region so special. Interested in learning more about living there? Feel free to give Aron or myself a call anytime.
