Angelica’s Area Spotlight – Westvale, Waterloo

If you head to the south west corner of the City of Waterloo you’ll be able to stroll around Westvale, a diverse, well-established and much-loved neighbourhood that, while it’s been established for over three decades, is still growing and welcoming new residents who are looking for a home to call their own.

In Westvale you’ll find a mixture of new construction homes, older homes with spacious lawns and large lots, intimate townhouses and even large four bedroom, four bathroom homes fit for the larger family.

Years ago, Westvalle was considered to be located on the outer limits of the city, but as Waterloo has grown it’s become far livelier and far more convenient to the heart of town. This is, in large part, thanks to The Boardwalk. The Boardwalk brought a plethora of amenities and entertainment to the west side of Waterloo, including a 10-screen Cineplex, restaurants and retail stores, and the new Medical Centre and it’s all within easy walking distance for Westvale residents.

The community itself is lively and fun for all too. It’s fair to say that the Westvale Community Association likes to have fun, hosting monthly events that include a big Easter Egg hunt, a summer carnival, a holiday lights contest and much more.

In terms of schools, students in Westvale are served by Westvale Public School, a JK-6 school, Holy Rosary Catholic School, Centennial Public School for middle schoolers and high school aged students have a choice between attending the Resurrection Catholic Secondary School, which is within walking distance, or the Kitchener-Waterloo Collegiate & Vocational School, a short bus ride away.

The area is also close to the universities, so many ’empty-nesters’ earn themselves an extra income by renting their now empty rooms to students looking for quieter living quarters than the dorms have to offer. Westvale is also becoming more appealing to seniors in general, thanks to the addition of the Westhill Senior Community, which offers them quick access to doctors, shopping and mass transit.
