Angelica’s Area Spotlight: What’s in Store for Kitchener – Waterloo for New Year&#
I know, I know, we don’t even have Christmas out of the way yet and I’m going to talk about New Year’s 🙂 However, it is always best to make advance plans for what really is the biggest night of the year if you want to be counting down to 2017 somewhere other than in front of your TV (not that there is anything wrong with that of course.)
For adults, the New Year’s Eve options in the Kitchener – Waterloo area are countless, as we have so many great restaurants, bars and clubs putting on a fabulous party this year. But what about those who want to celebrate the end of 2016 as a family, with the kids in tow? Fortunately there’s plenty going on for them too. Here’s a look at just some of the great events coming up in our area for you to consider:
Family New Year’s Eve Kitchener
This year the New Year’s celebrations planned for the community by the City of Kitchener have a superhero theme running throughout the evening that should be lots of fun for everyone.
From 6pm on December 31st, 2016 Carl Zehr Square will be ‘invaded’ by lots of familiar faces from the world of superheroes, including Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Super Girl and more. There will be chances for everyone to take pictures with them, to try out the Batmobile (that will be parked at City Hall) to ice skate, enjoy free hot chocolate, make a superhero craft and more.
For comic book fans there are even more treats in store as Toycon will also be operating on the site from 6pm – midnight, offering the chance to snap up all kinds of comic collectibles and also get hands on with some great retro arcade games. Live music on the stage in Carl Zehr Square will also be in full swing all evening, with a special band on hand to help begin the New Year’s countdown at 11.55pm.

New Year’s Eve Waterloo
This year’s city celebrations center around the Waterloo Public Square. This is an especially family friendly event as everything will be packed in between 6pm and 9pm on December 31st, 2016. An evening of free outdoor skating, free hot chocolate and kids crafts and lots of live music will be capped off by a special early New Year’s fireworks display so that those who just can’t be out (or awake) at midnight can still celebrate in style.

Cambridge New Year’s Eve Party
The festivities in Cambridge will be kicking off at 5pm on December 31st, 2016 at the Hespeler Memorial Arena and there will be an awful lot packed into the next few hours for both kids and adults to enjoy.
In addition to free skating and snacks there will be a bouncy castle, fun photobooths, kids games, crafting and more.
