Summer’s Here! Great Family Events Coming to the Waterloo Region in 2018
Summer’s has arrived in the Kitchener Waterloo region and the next few months promise (we hope) to be filled with lots of fun in the sun for everyone. Because we live in such a diverse and exciting place the simple fact is that people of all ages can experience art, culture, history, great music, wonderful food and much more all summer long.
Not a resident yet but considering purchasing a Waterloo Region home? Summer is a great time to visit our area to see it at its best – and Aron and Angie of Team Pinto are only ever a phone call away if you’d like to add a little househunting to your trip agenda.
So ‘what’s on’ in the Waterloo Region in the summer of 2018? Lots more than we could cover here, but to get you started here’s a look at some of our favourite events being staged this year and we promise, there’s something on this list for everyone.
Ribfest Kitchener
Victoria Park, Kitchener
July 20-22, 2018
If you love barbequed meats of all kinds, the local craft beer our region is famed for and great live music then you’ll love Ribfest Kitchener. In this, the festival’s 15th year things promise to be bigger and better than ever and admission is free for all. Donations, however, are appreciated and all of those go to The Food Bank of Waterloo Region.
Open Streets
Waterloo Public Square, Waterloo Park
July 15-17, August 19, September 16, 2018
There are several innovative Open Streets events planned for this year. Because of ongoing construction in the Upper Waterloo area where the event has been held in the past, this year festivities have been moved to the square and the park, but it still promises to be tons of fun. July will see a LEGO day of play and an open to all Cosplay parade, they’ll be an Instrumental Day of Play in August and in September there’s a Battle Day of Play coming to the park that promises to be very exciting (but totally safe) Grab all of the dates and details here.
TD Kitchener Blues Festival
August 9-12, 2018
Victoria Park, Kitchener
The TD Kitchener Blues Festival is the largest of its kind in Ontario – and one of the biggest in Canada and for 18 years has been attracting some amazing musicians to the region for a three day festival of music, dancing, food, and fun that is surprisingly family friendly. There are some great acts this year, including Grammy winner Jonny Lang and Triumph’s Rik Emmett who’ll be there with his current band, Revolution9.
Campfire Nights
Waterloo Public Square
Various dates, July, August and September 2018
Gather up the family, grab a few blankets and head up to the Waterloo Public Square for an evening of free music, a campfire and great snacks and treats.
