How to Use Pantone’s 2017 Colour of the Year in Your Home Decor and Home Staging

Every year international colour authority Pantone – or more specifically the executive director of its Color Institute Letitia Eiseman – chooses one colour to be the International Colour of the Year. From there everyone from top fashion and interior designers to paint manufacturers and savvy home owners takes note and tries to work the shade into their New Year’s work.

The shade for 2017? Greenery. According to Pantone ” Greenery signifies beginnings: a fresh New Year; healthier food resolutions and growing vegetarian trends; grass and the outdoors during spring and summer. Greenery is about unity and community—connecting to oneself and others and a higher purpose, Nature.”

A predominately yellow green shade Greenery is certainly striking, but what’s the best way to make use of it for interior design, especially if you are staging your home for sale, a project that really calls for you to be slightly more conservative than you might usually be as the overall ‘vibe’ of the home needs to appeal to as many people as possible.

Greens of any shade aren’t always easy to use in a home setting, but it can be extremely striking when it is utilized correctly. Here are just a few ideas if you are planning to stage your home for sale or spruce up your new one in 2017.

A Bright New Front Door

A home’s curb appeal is a crucial element of it’s overall appeal, and very often a striking, attractive front door can be used as the heart of your outdoor decor. Greenery can actually be a wonderful choice for a front door, as after all it was designed as an ode to nature and should complement the real greenery around your home very well.

The paint used here is a Behr paint, a shade called New Shoot, which is a perfect match to Greenery according to the paint company. Below it’s used again in a different setting, but as you can see it is still just as inoffensively striking and sure to quietly – but effectively – set this home apart from several similar ones on the street.

Amazing Accent Walls

A neutral coloured room can be made a little more striking when an accent wall is added. This colour washed version of Emerald, created as a custom mix by Lowes Canada (just ask them for Pantone Shade  15-0343)  is soft, bright and subdued, all the properties you need when staging a room to be pleasing to most without looking too bland or boring.

Great for Rehab

Repainting your kitchen cabinets can be a very affordable and efficient way to breathe new life into a kitchen space in a home for sale (or one not for sale!) And as the shade of the year is supposed to be all about renewal then what better colour to use than Greenery?
